Symposium Solares Bauen in Basel
The fourth “Symposium Solares Bauen”, jointly organized by Swissolar, TEC21, solarchitecture.ch and EnergieSchweiz, took place on September 13th in Basel. On this occasion, Dr. Sergi Aguacil presented the research he developed as part of his PhD thesis, conducted at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) and focusing on active low carbon renovation strategies.
Faced with the challenges of the energy transition and climate change, the zero-carbon goal has become a top priority for the Swiss construction industry. In this context, the integration of active solar elements into buildings can make an important contribution towards achieving carbon neutrality in the built environment. The way to get there leads through committed architects, as well as informed builders. What does that mean in practice? How can solar architecture projects be tackled? What possibilities are currently available for architectural design, technology and integration?
The 4th “Symposium Solares Bauen” focused on these questions. Dr. Sergi Aguacil presented to the multiple participants his works on renovation strategies with Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV). Developed in the framework of the “Active Interfaces” research project, part of the National Research Programme NRP 70 of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), his dissertation proposes an original way to approach renovation projects in urban contexts. The tool developed in this framework provides architects and engineers with advanced BIPV renovation strategies, according to building type, objectives in terms of architectural design and the desired level of intervention.
